Harvest Season happenings in Lake Chelan, WA

Vineyard during Fall

Living in Lake Chelan offers many advantages, one of which is an easy access to the activities and attractions that pop up in celebration of the annual harvests.

Here are some of the activities you can check out once the harvest season rolls in:

Go on a barrel tasting tour

Given its status as an American Viticultural Area or AVA, there is no shortage of barrel tasting tours in Lake Chelan, especially at the onset of the harvest season.

A common practice among vintners and winemakers, barrel tasting is an activity in which a winery’s barrels are opened and samples given to customers for tasting.

Apart from being a social activity, barrel tastings are also an opportunity to meet local winemakers and learn more about what they do.

Experience the outdoors

Often described as one of the world’s most spectacular glacial carved lakes and home to some of Washington State’s most impressive sceneries, Lake Chelan boasts an impressive network of walking and biking trails.

Currently, there are more than 250 miles of well-maintained hiking trails to explore in Lake Chelan. And while the majority of Lake Chelan’s trails – about 190 miles worth – are restricted to non-motorized travel, some of its trails are open to horses, mountain bikers, and even motorcycles.

Some of the most popular trails in the area are Little Bear Trail, Pot Peak Trail, Stormy Mountain Trail, and Echo Ridge Trails. Of these, Little Bear Trail and Echo Ridge Trails are the most beginner-friendly, whereas Pot Peak Trail and Stormy Mountain Trail are more physically demanding.

For something more leisurely, go bird watching. During the fall months, train those binoculars on woodpeckers, loons, thrushes, grebes, nuthatches, towhees, and buffleheads.

Go on a seaplane tour around Lake Chelan

Exploring Lake Chelan usually means either hopping on a boat or taking a hike up the mountains. However, did you know that you could explore this beautiful region via seaplanes?

Undoubtedly one of Lake Chelan’s more unique offerings, seaplane tours take passengers around the area by skilled pilots who provide interesting bits of information about the lake and the surrounding areas.

These tours are especially popular during the latter part of the year, because of the visual treat the autumn foliage brings when seen from above.

Mingle with local farmers at the Chelan Evening Farmers Market

Held every Thursday from May through October, the Chelan Evening Farmers Market brings together farmers and vendors from the greater Chelan area.

They offer fresh produce and local cheeses, baked goods, and arts and crafts.  The market likewise features workshops, a kid’s activity table, and live performances by local, independent artists.
